Known problems of the skeye.allegro
Overview
The skeye.allegro has the following known problems:
The LAN and WLAN have to be switched off and on to connect to a network
Description
To connect to a LAN (using the Ethernet dock) or a WLAN (using the embedded WLAN capability) it is necessary to switch the (W)LAN off and on again.
Effects
Connection to a network requires manual steps not apropriate for all end users. The menu of MDA's main screen offers direct access to the WLAN settings and the global settings (linking to the Ethernet settings is not possible).
Sometimes it is necessary to undock the allegro, pull the power plug of the docking station, wait a few seconds, pull the power plug in again, dock the allegro, and switch the ethernet off and on again once more.
Severity
Medium.
Solution plans
We have informed the dealer and manufacturer but have not received a bugfix yet.
Future outlook
The manufacturer has promised to provide a solution (new firmware) in January 2013.
skeye.allegro sometime dies when waking up or undocking
Description
Sometimes the operating system just dies, usually when waking up or undocking.
Effects
The device has to be switched off and on again.
Sometime it is necessary to unplug and plug the battery. This workaround seems to require a fully charged battery.
Sometime it even is necessary to press the hardware reset button, hidden in a small hole just left of the battery contacts.
Severity
Medium, because no data are lost.
Solution plans
We have informed the dealer and manufacturer but have not received a bugfix yet.
Future outlook
The semi official new firmware 0.48 is supposed to solve these crashes. Tests are in progress.
skeye Ethernet dock has random MAC address
Description
The Ethernet dock does not provide a constant MAC address, but a different one each time.
Effects
It is impossible for DHCP servers to assign a certain IP address based on the MAC address.
Severity
Medium to low, because so far no customer needs a fixed IP address. Within the MDA system, mobile devices are identified using the configurable Device-ID, not the IP address.
Solution plans
We have informed the dealer and manufacturer but have not received any answer yet.
Future outlook
The manufacturer has promised to provide a solution (new firmware) in January 2013.
